A delegation of All India Sikh Students Federation, (AISSF) led by its President Mr. Manjit Singh Bhoma, called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.The delegation apprised the Governor about the hardships being faced by people in general and the Sikh community in particular due to the prevailing unrest in the Valley and appealed for government’s interest in mitigating their sufferings. They also put forth demands of the Sikh community which included: economic package for Sikh Community of the Valley; grant of minority status to the Sikhs by the J&K Government; establishment of Sikh Welfare Board; 10 % reservation for J&K Sikhs in State government jobs and also in recently created 10,000 jobs by the State and the Central government; representation of J&K Sikhs in the State Cabinet and in the Rajya Sabha; bringing perpetrators of 1985 massacre of Sikhs of Reasi and Chhati Singh Pura to books without further delay; posting of female Sikh employees in their home towns and introduction of Punjabi as a second language in the schools and colleges of the State.The Governor observed that the issues raised by the delegation would be taken up with the concerned authorities. Stressing the crucial importance of peace being urgently restored in the State, the Governor urged the delegation to continue vigorous endeavours in this regard.The delegation comprised Mr. Sarbjit Singh, Chief Advisor AISSF, Mr. Satnam Singh Kanda, Advisor AISSF and Dr. Joginder Singh Shan, President Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Pulwama.
