District Social Welfare Department, Udhampur today organised an awareness programme on ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ here at Nari Nikatan.District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Mr. Niraj Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion.  While speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of Social Welfare Department for organising   awareness camps on the flagship scheme for the welfare of girls.Enumerating various objectives of the scheme, the DC said that such awareness programmes would help in ensuring empowerment of women through education and equal participation in all fields besides preventing gender biased sex selective elimination of girl child.Describing the scheme as crucial for welfare of society, the DC stressed that without empowering women, development of the country is not possible at all.

The DC asked the DSWO to organise more such programmes in near future for creating more and more awareness among the general masses.During the programme, the District Social Welfare Officer called upon the people to come forward for availing the benefits of various schemes and programmes of the Department. He informed that a computer cum coaching class was also held last year at Nari Niketan for the benefit of the inmates. The students of Nari Niketan also presented a scintillating cultural programmes which was highly appreciated by the audience present on the occasion.Earlier, the DC gave away 4 motorised tricycles to the specially abled children under Motorised tricycle scheme for handicapped persons introduced by Rehabilitation Council PO ICDS, Assistant Commissioner Development,  Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, , SDM Chenani, Dy DEO, DSWO, BDOs , CDPOs and inmate of Nari Niketan were also present on the occasion.
