Punjab Congress today ridiculed and lashed out at the Punjab government for accusing it of politicizing the abduction of a 15 year old girl from her house in Faridkot on September 24 in front of her parents and other relatives. Lashing out at the charges leveled at the Congress by the Political Advisor to the Chief Minister Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal and the Media Adviser Harcharan Bains, Punjab Congress general secretary and Dhuri MLA Arvind Khanna asked, “what does the government want the Congress to do, just stay idle as a mute spectator as it (the government) has done itself?’ Does this mean the Congress should give up its responsibility of the opposition like the government has virtually given up on governance? he asked, while adding, it really took strong stand taken by the Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh and the Congress Legislative party leader Sunil Jakhar  to make the government to speak out on the issue. Arvind Khanna said, the government cannot dismiss the serious issue raised by the Congress by hiding behind the argument that the Congress was trying to “bake political bread” out of this issue. “To you it may appear to be baking the political bread, but for us it is a serious humanitarian issue related to the abduction of a girl at gunpoint”, Khanna asserted while stressing that instead of blaming the Congress for politicizing the issue the government should better use its energies and resources in tracing the girl.
