Punjab Congress today asked the ruling Akali Dal and the Bhartiya Janata Party to spell out their stand about Balwant Singh Rajoana who is also facing death penalty for assassinating former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh. In a statement, Punjab Congress general secretary and Dhuri MLA, Arvind Khanna pointed out, now that the Jaish-e-Mohammad militant Afzal Guru has been hanged the Akali-BJP should tell the nation in general and the people of Punjab as what it thought about Rajoana. He pointed out, BJP had been crying hoarse against the Congress that it was delaying the execution of Afzal Guru. He said, Congress actually did not delay it as there was a legal process and the law was taking its own course. “But why the BJP is now quiet about Rajoana?” he asked, while adding, “just because it does not want to annoy its alliance partner and stick to power while compromising its self proclaimed nationalism”.Khanna reminded the BJP that it was during its rule that the parliament was attacked, a plane was hijacked for which the BJP government released terrorists in a royal way by offering them a flight to Kabul with the then foreign minister Jaswant Singh escorting them and Kargil was attacked. “And it is Congress which has been punishing the culprits”, he remarked.
