Delhi Transport Minister Satyendar Jain on Wednesday said 17 auto-rickshaw unions which were part of the strike called against the app-based taxis have since called off their agitation."Seventeen auto unions call off the strike after meeting," tweeted Jain.A total of 20 auto-rickshaw drivers' unions, along with yellow-top taxis' drivers, under the banner of Joint Action Committee of Auto and Taxi Unions, had gone on a strike on July 26 to demand fixing of fares of the app-based taxis.

The auto unions had switched to a hunger strike on Wednesday. However, contradicting the government's version, JACATU president Rajender Soni said only four auto unions had called off the strike while members of the remaining were continuing with the hunger strike."The government has played the divide-and-rule policy with us and weakened our unions. Whatever the situation, the rest of the unions are going to continue with the strike," Soni told IANS.
