Several areas in Srinagar were inundated on Tuesday following incessant rainfall while due to inclement weather Amarnath Yatra was suspended. In Jammu region a woman was killed after their housed collapsed while two children were washed away in flash floods.The incessant rains since Tuesday morning across Jammu and Kashmir caused water lodging in Srinagar areas including the commercial hub Lal Chowk. Various areas in Srinagar city including business hub Lal Chowk, Jawahar Nagar, Rambagh, Raj Bagh, Khanyar, Nowpora, Bemina and others were water logged resulting in immense hardships to the local population and commuters as well.Due to rainfall, there was a dip in day and night temperatures giving respite to people in the region. The rainfall occurred after a long dry spell of weather. Weatherman informed CNS that rainfall and thunder showers may occur across Jammu Kashmir including Chenab Valley, higher reaches and plains of Kashmir till Thursday. “As the day progresses on Thursday, there will be improvement in weather,” the weatherman said.

Reports said that heavy rains left one person dead in Kashmir's Pir Panjal region. Arshad Begum, 45, wife of Muneer Hussain resident of Sawni Rajouri died after her house collapsed. According to reports at least two children were washed away by flash floods in Jammu. "The bodies of two children who were washed away in flash floods in Janipur area, have been recovered. In the railway station area of the Jammu city a number of 'jhuggis' (makeshift dwellings) have also been damaged while people in low lying and flood prone areas have been asked to remain vigilant,” said a police official.Though life was disrupted in Valley as major parts reeled under curfew, however, in Jammu normal life was affected due to torrential rains.Meanwhile, pilgrimage to Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas was suspended from both Baltal and traditional Pahalgam routes due to heavy rains. Pilgrims, who left Baltal base camp early this morning for the cave shrine, were stopped at Brarimarg as the track has become slippery due to rain since early this morning. It was still raining in the entire track, a yatra official said. (CNS)
