The death count due to use of firearms by government forces to suppress protests following Hizb commander Burhan Wani killing mounted to 47 with a 25-year-old succumbing to injuries at SKIMS here on Sunday.Battling for survival in the hospital after being hit by a bullet in abdomen near Pampore on July 10, the youth, Sameer Ahamd Wani son of Bashir Ahmad Wani of Khonmoh Srinagar was declared dead by the doctors at the tertiary hospital early Sunday morning.Meanwhile, the curfew, shutdown and protests amid mobile phone and internet blockade continued across the Valley on sixteenth running day on Sunday.

The State Government yesterday said 2252 persons with minor and major injuries had been treated at various hospitals across Kashmir during the ongoing unrest. It said that 2144 persons of the injured had been discharged after treatment.The government stated that 359 surgeries had been conducted in various hospitals, out of which 197 cases were injuries to eyes.The government said it ensured availability of sufficient medicines in all the hospitals to cater to the needs of the injured in addition to issuing directions to the hospital authorities for providing free food to the patients and their attendants.(GNS)
