The construction works on Multi-storey parking complex at General Bus Stand Jammu will start soon.Chairing a meeting of officers convened to discuss modalities for start of work on the ambitious project, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr. Pawan Kotwal said that the project, coming up at an estimated cost of  Rs. 201.68 crore, would go a long way in reducing the traffic congestion  and  provide  adequate  parking space for the vehicles in the heart of Jammu city.The ground floor of the six-storey building would provide parking space for about 80 buses. The first, second and third floors would have a capacity to accommodate 1,312 cars, while as the fourth and fifth floors would house shopping malls, food courts, restaurants and  washrooms, besides having an air-conditioned ticket booking office and waiting hall.

The meeting was informed that 75 shopkeepers from existing General Bus Stand would be allotted shops at Inter-State Bus Terminal, Transport Nagar. The transporters would be given an ideal parking space at ISBT, Transport Nagar, while as pick and drop facility will be provided to the passengers from General Bus Stand till the completion of the project.         Representatives of various Transport Unions present in the meeting assured the Divisional Commissioner that they would provide cooperation for the completion of this project.Responding to the issue raised by the transporters with regard to illegal parking of Buses at BC Road, Jammu, the Divisional Commissioner directed the district administration for taking strict action against the violators.Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Simrandeep Singh, Vice Chairman, JDA Mubarak Singh, SSP (Traffic), Jammu Udaya Bhaskar, Regional Transport Officer, Jammu Ashwani Khajuria, General Manager (Operations), JKSRTC Arshad Tramboo,  SP City Vinod Kumar, besides representatives of various Transport Unions including Jammu-Poonch Bus Union, Jammu-Banihal Bus Union and Jammu-Chhamb Bus Union were present in the meeting.
