The sub-committee of CABE (Central Advisory Board for Education) formed for the purpose of improving the lot of Government Schools in the country, would submit its report in August before finalizing the National Education policy in order to ensure the inclusion of the recommendations of the committee in the policy.Disclosing this today in a statement after presiding over the 5th meeting of the committee at National University of Education and Research (NEUPA) New Delhi, Punjab Education Minister, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said that since the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) is holding consultations to finalise the National Education Policy, it is important for the committee, working since 8-9 months to prepare its report, to submit the same before finalization of the policy. He also said that earlier 2 meetings at Delhi and 1 each at Bhubaneswar and Bengaluru were held in which the Education Minister or Education Officers of practically every state in the country had made their presentations before the committee.

Dr. Cheema further divulged that the presentations made in the previous meetings were discussed threadbare in today’s meeting besides constructive deliberations on comparative state of education in the various provinces, infrastructure, availability of the teachers, mode of recruitment, training arrangements for pre-service and in-service teachers and comparative analysis of Government, aided and un-aided private schools. Today’s meeting also debated over the text pertaining to the report to be handed over by the committee.The Minister also informed that the committee would hold its 6th meeting on 30th July at New Delhi in which the report would be given finishing touches. Afterwards, the report would be handed over to the Union Human Resource Development ministry in August.

It is important to mention here that Punjab Education Minister, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema was appointed as Chairman of the CABE sub-committee constituted for the purpose of ameliorating the lot of government schools of the country. The committee was given the timeframe of 1 year for preparing and handing over the report to the Union Human Resource Development ministry but the committee did its allotted job in a mere 10 months.The meeting was attended by Education Minister of Rajasthan Prof. Vasudev Devnani, Education Minister of Bihar Mr. Ashok Chadury, Education Minister of Chhattisgarh Dr. Neerja Yadav, Vice Chancellor of National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NEUPA) Mr. T.B.J. Tilak, Mrs. Ranjana Arora from NCERT, Deepak Rajnan of Premji Foundation, Joint Secretary, MHRD Mr. Manish, Principal Secretary (School Education) of Punjab Mr. G Vajralangam, Principal Secretary (School Education) of Bihar and other eminent educationist.
