On the 49th death anniversary of the Muhajir-e-Millat, Mirwaiz Moulvi Yusuf Shah, one of the foremost leaders of the resistance movement, special programmes were held across both sides of the Line of Control with dedication and respect. In this connection, Jammu Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC) organised a Quran Khawani Majlis at the historic Aali Masjid Eidgah, Srinagar in which various Ulemas, Khateebs, and JKAAC office bearers participated. On the occasion, special prayers were held for the commentator of Quran, Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Yusuf Shah and all the martyrs of Kashmir. In the compound of Aali Masjid, Eidgah an impressive programme was held which was presided over by Hurriyat (M) Chairman and JKAAC President, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. The programme was attended by prominent personalities, Ulema of the Valley and heads of various religious, political and social organizations. The persons who spoke on the occasion included Moulana Muhammad Abbas Ansari, Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat, Advocate Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Ayaz Akbar, Imam Hai Syed Ahmad Syed Naqshbandi, Moulana Lala Din who had come from Rajouri, Moulana M S Rehman Shams who recalled the services of the Mirwaiz Moulvi Yusuf Shah toward the religion, politics, society and resistance movement and paid glowing tributes to him.In his presidential address, the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Dr. Moulvi Muhmammad Umar Farooq said that the Mahajir-e-Millat along with his close aides started a struggle for a pious cause for which thousands of Kashmiris also sacrificed their lives, that struggle was still on and would continue until the mission of the Mahajir-e-Millat is not fulfilled.

The Mirwaiz said in the so-called Jammu Kashmir Assembly where the legislators claim to be the representatives of the people, actually work to further the agenda of Delhi while completely ignoring the rights and interests of the people of Kashmir. He said it was for this reason that the people of Kashmir are caught in deep political, economic and social crises. The APHC Chairman said the pulpit of Jamia Masjid is witness to raising the voice for the religious, political, economic and social rights and interests of the people of the Kashmir and would continue to do so in future and that the religious leadership of Kashmir would never remain quite on the problems of the people.Referring to the statement that the religious clergy should maintain silence over the public issues, the Mirwaiz said the people who give these statement were either unaware of the ground realities or were not able to look into the realities due to their arrogance of power. He said these people talk of representing the masses while in reality they had sold the resources of the people like water, power projects, forests and other natural resources for fulfilling their own selfish interests.

The APHC Chairman said they do not remember the people at the time of natural disasters, restrictions in curfews, in pinching cold winters, while ignoring about the suffering due to inflation, black marketing and hoarding. These people even abandoned the masses during the September 2014 devastating floods when the entire government vanished from the ground. He said it was the religious institutions and leadership that came forward at that time of crises and helped the flood-hit people. The Mirwaiz said before pointing finger at others, these people should take stock of their own lives and understand the miseries and oppression they had subjected the people to since 1947. Even today when the masses protest against the anti-people policies, they are dealt with bullets, detentions, restrictions, harassment and arrests. He said the joint programme announced by the resistance leadership against the setting up of a Sainik colony, separate townships for Kashmiri Pandits, permanent settlement of refugees, anti-Kashmir industrial policy would continue despite the government crackdown on the resistance leadership.

The APHC Chairman said by using force and oppression, the peoples’ movement have neither been crushed in the past nor would they be able to do so in the future and Kashmir issue would be resolved as per the wishes and aspirations of the people of Kashmir.Mirwaiz said that senior resistance leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Muhammad Yasin Malik were also invited to participate in this event but could not make it due to the house arrest of Geelani Sahib and detention of Malik Sahib, however, Ayaz Akbar and Advocate Bashir Ahmad Bhat represented them respectively. Earlier, the Mirwaiz in his address talked about the philosophical importance of the Jang-e-Badr, the first war of the Muslims with the Kufars and paid glowing tribute to the Martyrs of Badr.
