Students from Delhi Public School (DPS) Athwajan Monday staged protest asking school authorities to change all the rules that have the potential to hurt the religious sentiments of majority community of the State. The students of the school who assembled here in Press Enclave said that school rule that prohibits a female faculty member from using ‘Abhiya’ should be eliminated.Pertinently, the DPS management drew flak from different quarters of the society and the government for suspending a lady teacher for using Abhiya in the school. The action of the school had sparked protest inside the school forcing school management to tender unconditional apology.

“Tendering apology is not going to solve the problem. School was bound to apologize as it was at fault. We want eradication and abolition of all those anti-Muslim rules that school pursues including the ban on using Islamic dress code,” the protesting students told CNS.They said that student community had written a detailed letter to the Principal asking her to eliminate the contentious rules. “A meeting was supposed to take place on 20 June (Monday) between school management and us, but ironically, the management fearing protest, announced summer vacations,” they said.“We are against the contentious rules not against the school. If controversial rules are not abolished, the students will start indefinite protests,” they said and added that suspended teacher should be reinstated without any delay. (CNS)
