Strongly condemning the appointment of the 1984 anti-Sikh riot accused Shri Kamal Nath as the Incharge of the Punjab Congress, former president of the Punjab unit of BJP and member of the BJP national executive Shri Kamal Sharma has demanded immediate cancellation of the appointment besides Congress tendering an apology to the people of Punjab. In a release issued here today, Shri Sharma said, "The appointment of a person like Kamalnath, who is accused of rioting, only reflects that Congress has no regrets over the Sikh genocide that took place in 1984." Expressing his dismay over the development, Shri Sharma said that it was extremely unfortunate that instead of bringing the guilty to book, the Congress party was rewarding them with plum posts. "Leaving all issues aside, AICC Vice-President Shri Rahul Gandhi should clarify that how can a riot accused be the state incharge of the Congress party", he argued. Shri Sharma also said that the appointment has not only lead to anger among the people of Punjab but it can also create social unrest in the state. "Under these circumstances, it would be better that the appointment of Shri Nath be cancelled and Congress should tender an apology", he concluded.
