A complete shutdown was Saturday observed in City Centre here including Lal Chowk and Maisuma against the arrest of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Yasin Malik and police raids.According to GNS Correspondent, people of Maisuma staged a protest in early hours today against the nocturnal Police raids. The protesters staged pro-freedom and anti-India protests. Shortly after the protests, police imposed curbs in the area by erecting concertina wires. The situation in the Maisuma and its adjoining areas turned worse after police used force on JKLF protest led by chairman Yasin Malik. Witnesses said soon after addressing a presser at his Maisuma residence, Malik took out a protest rally but a large contingent of police foiled the same by resorting to cane charge and teargas shelling. As police were attempting to foil JKLF protest, a scuffle broke between two sides which added fuel to the fire. The police action infuriated the youth and they resorted to stone-pelting on police and forces. Police later arrested Malik and lodged him in nearby police station.Earlier addressing the presser, Malik lashed out at PDP-BJP coalition and police and said he will not backtrack even if he is kept in jail for ten years for uniting pro-freedom leadership.Meanwhile, the shutdown besides Maisuma was observed at Court Road, Koker Bazar, Red Cross Road and Budshah Chowk. However the traffic plied normally. The Maisuma remained under curbs throughout the day. (GNS)
