Prof. Nirmal Gupta, Chairperson J&K State Social Welfare Board today visited Arai village of Mandi Tehsil in District Poonch and took stock of the essential services and problems of the locals. During the interaction with the locals, she was informed that there are 84 disabled persons, mostly children in the Village who were born normal and after the age of 5 years they developed physical disabilities. The Chairperson directed the district authorities to immediately set up medical camp in the village to find out the root cause of the problem.Prof. Gupta also directed the Block Development Officer, Mandi to construct Medical Aid Centre at Arai and household latrines for all the 84 disabled families. She also directed Tehsil Social Welfare Officer to ensure coverage of all affected children under disability pension scheme. She directed the Tehsildar Mandi to personally monitor the instructions given to the concerned.Dr Gupta also held a detailed meeting with Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Mohammed Haroon Malikand discussed the issues relating to the problems of the disabled children. Later she also inspected various Creche Centres in Mendhar, Poonch and Family Counseling Centre at Surankote.The Chairperson was accompanied by Executive Director & Secretary J&K State Social Welfare Board, Aamir Ali and sectoral officers of different departments.
