Srinagar , 16 May 2016

Police Monday foiled the protest of All Jammu and Kashmir Saakshar Bharat Mission Association (AJKSBMA) and detained scores of its members. The protesters who assembled at Srinagar Press Enclave were protesting against the government for allegedly failing to release their wages from past two years. They were chanting slogans against the authorities and were demanding to release their wages at earliest. The protesting SBM employees told KNS that the authorities have miserably failed to release their wages from past two years due to which they are facing immense hardships.“Despite working with dedication, the authorities seem reluctant to pay monthly wages to the employees working under SBM. We have not been given wages from past two years, which forced us to stage protest against the authorities,” they said. The protesting employees said that they were pinning hope on the newly formed dispensation in the state but unfortunately their sufferings didn’t end in this regime as well. They said that they went from pillar to post for the redressal of their genuine grievances but nothing has been done in this regard.“We appeal Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and other higher ups to intervene into the matter and redress their genuine grievances at earliest,” the protesting employees said. The employees later tried to march towards the commercial hub Lal Chowk.Nonetheless, police intercepted the protesters and detained scores of its members.
