Terming the house arrest of Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under since the bloodshed in north Kashmir’s Handwara region as unjustifiable, an Hurriyat (M) spokesman Sunday condemned the action of stopping the Mirwaiz from performing his religious, political and social obligations. Criticizing the arrest and house arrests of dozens of Hurriyat leaders and workers including Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam, Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Javed Ahmad Mir, Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi, Adv. Yasir Dalal and others, the spokesman said by imposing curfew in Handwara and other areas, people were being subjected to severe hardships while extreme action was taken against the resistance leadership.

Stressing that Indian forces had been let loose by giving them unbridled powers under draconian black laws, he said these laws give them license to kill and get away with it with impunity. Condemning the action against the resistance leadership and the freedom-loving people of Kashmir, the Hurriyat (M) spokesman said killing and atrocities, placing curbs and restrictions on the movement of the people, placing the resistance leadership under house arrest and holding them in detention was undemocratic and dictatorial. Calling upon the international community and human rights organizations to take serious note of the killing in Handwara and human rights violations in Kashmir, the spokesman said using force to cow down the people into submission and trying to stifle their voice forever was an attempt to snatch their ‘Right to Live’.

Terming the killings in Handwara as an eye-opener for the international community, the Hurriyat (M) spokesman condemned imposing of ban on internet services in Kashmir and termed it as unfortunate development meant to disconnect Kashmir from the rest of the world and for placing an iron curtain over the atrocities carried on Kashmiris. Meanwhile, the spokesman paid glowing tributes to senior resistance leader, S Hameed on his martyrdom anniversary and said his martyrdom and the martyrdom of thousands of other people of Kashmir were the real assets of the ongoing resistance movement. Stressing that recalling these sacrifices help breathe a new life in the resistance movement, the Hurriyat (M) spokesman said the resistance leadership and the freedom-loving people of Kashmir would not rest until these sacrifices are taken to their logical conclusion. Making it clear that the Hurriyat (M) stands for the resolution of Kashmir issue as per the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiris, the spokesman said it was for this resolution that leaders like S Hameed and dozens of other leaders had sacrifices their lives.
