Taking a unique initiative the Union Minister for Food Processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal today inaugurated sanitary napkin vending machine at The Government Senior Secondary School (girls) Mall Road today. 20 such machines will be installed at various educational institutes of district. Badal said that the machines have been established with the aim of promoting personal hygiene and usage of sanitary napkins. She said that personal hygiene in females was onset of a healthy life. The vending machine gives three napkins when pressed once for mere Rs 10. The cost of per machine is around Rs 25000 and the HLL Company has installed them. She added that in order to dispose off the used sanitary napkins properly, incinerators have been installed in the girls’ toilets wherein the girls can throw away used napkins. The incinerator burns away these napkins.
She added that the girls are hesitant while buying sanitary napkins from shops. These machines will help by providing them sanitary napkins right in their educational institutions without any hesitation. She added that similar machines are being installed at Government Senior Secondary Schools (girls) Balianwali, Goniana, Koreana, Maluka, Maur Mandi, Patti Karam Chand Mehraj, Raman Mandi, Rampura Mandi and Talwandi Sabo. Similarly, these machines are also being installed at Meritorious School, Government Rajindra College, Baba Farid College, Adesh Medical College, Guru Kashi University, Guru Kashi University Talwandi Sabo, Central University of Punjab, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Technical University, University College Ghudda, Adarsh School Nandgarh and Sports School Ghudda.The CPS Mr Sarup Chand Singla, Deputy Commissioner Dr Basant Garg, OSD to Deputy CM Mr Mohnish Kumar and Mr Harinder Singh Sra, ADC (D) Mrs Shena Aggarwal, SSP Mr Swapan Sharma, DEO (S) Dr Amarjit Kaur Kotfatta, SAD press secretary Dr Om Prakash Sharma and other prominent people were also present.
