A public protest against the continuous detention of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chairman, Shabir Ahmad Shah, erupted in Budgam area of central Kashmir soon after the Friday prayers.According to DFP spokesperson, the protests were led by party's district president, Abdul Gani, and several party activists including Ghulam Muhammad Maqdam, Abdul Rashid, Altaf Ahmad Bhat participated in it. Holding banners and chanting pro-freedom slogans, the protestors demanded release of Shabir Ahmad Shah while terming his detention as "based on political vengeance".Abdul Gani also addressed the public gathering and said, "Government has no justification for keeping Shabir Ahmad Shah under detention and by banning the political activities of pro-freedom leaders, it only complicates the already tense situation of the valley."The spokesperson said since last 30 months, Shabir Ahmad Shah continues to be either under house arrest or in police detention and "authorities don't provide any legal justification for such unconstitutional detentions".Meanwhile, on the directions of DFP general secretary, Moulana Abdullah Tari, a delegation led by party's senior leader, Er Farooq Ahmad Khan, visited the martyrs' graveyard of Pathribal and Barakpora massacre victims at Brari Aangan in south Kashmir.The delegation included Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh, Ishfaq Ahmad Kotwal, Manzoor Ahmad Ghazi, Nazir Ahmad, Shabir Ahmad Baba, Muhammad Adil Wagay, Majid Khan, and dozens of others.Paying tributes to martyrs, the participants demanded punishment to the culprits of these massacres.
