The visit of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti to New Delhi amid deadlock over government formation has rekindled hopes that the alliance between the two political parties will continue and the state may again see an elected government soon.Mehbooba flew to the Delhi today forenoon, her second visit in five days, to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday after union Finance minister Arun Jaitley yesterday said that the BJP was “committed to agenda of governance in Jammu and Kashmir.”The fresh developments are believed to be the outcome of a late night meeting of BJP top brass at New Delhi on Sunday, chaired by BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav and was attended by BJP Sate President Sat Sharma and former Deputy Chief Minster Dr. Nirmal Singh. Soon after Mehbooba reached New Delhi today, the PDP legislators received a communicated to get ready for a meeting on Thursday.“Yes, we got a message to attend the party meeting on Thursday afternoon,” a senior PDP legislator told KNS. While speculations are rife that the PDP will elect the Mehbooba as legislative party leader, the legislator however, was not certain.“We don’t know about it yet, but the meeting will be about government formation,” he said.

Unlike last week when the government formation seems uncertain, this week has raised hopes for the legislators of both BJP and PDP that the alliance might continue.PDP senior leader and former Education Minister Nayeem Akhtar said negotiations in politics are inevitable and doors can’t be shut to arrive at consensus.“I don’t know whether Mehbooba would be meeting PM, but yes she is travelling to New Delhi,” Akhtar told KNS.Akhtar’s statement comes days after it seemed the channels of communication between PDP and BJP are closed after Ram Madhav, the BJP national general secretary said that “no new conditions” will be accepted for continuing the alliance. However, senior PDP leader and MP, Muzaffar Hussain Baig made it clear to BJP that PDP did not set any new conditions and the new stalemate was due to “misunderstandings and miscommunication” between the two parties.Baig had stressed for opening channels of communication afresh and said both parties must keep public aware of the developments. The state is under Governor's rule since the death of chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed on January 7.
