Police on Saturday foiled a protest march of Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement (JKMM) here. The JKMM supporters led by its chairperson Farida Behanji assembled at Abiguzar and staged protest against the ‘illegal’ detention of SAR Geelani and profiling of Kashmiri people and students in Kolkatta and Goa.Raising pro-freedom slogans, they marched towards Abiguzar, however police swung into action and detained Farida Behanji alongwith several activists including Molvi Bashir Ahmed, Abdul Rashid, Mehmooda Ji, Afroza, Insha and Firdousa Jan.Shortly before her arrest, Farida Behanji said the detention of SAR Geelani under sedition charges is an attempt on part of Government of India to cowdown those who support Kashmir Cause. “All over India including Kashmir Muslims are being harassed and intimidated,” she said. She added that the “entire Kashmir has been turned into prison” “Hurriyat leaders have been either detained or put under house arrest.
