Each and every household in the country will have its own toilet by 2019. Under Swach Bharat Mission toilets will be constructed in the households of needy persons, as such, 1 crore 46 lacs toilets stands constructed and by the year 2022 safe drinking water supply for every household in the country will be ensured.This was stated by Union Minister for Water Supply & Saniatation Sh. Ram Kripal yadav while addressing the gathering during inaugural function for water & Sanitation Week, organized at Sharma Farm House Zirakpur where he was addressing the gathering after initiated the scheme for installation of solar power plant at water works at village Shtabgarh.

During this Yadav said that Punjab is the land of great heroes and martyrs where Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat singh has sacrificed for the freedom of our nation and farmers of this great land has also proved themselves by their hard work and made the state independent n terms of wheat production. Stating this he owed to the land of Punjab. During this he said that the Swacch Bharat Mission Campaign initiated under the head ship of Prime Minister Sh. Narender Modi has also taken a great shift in the state of Punjab and its progress in Punjab is remarkable. He urged that people should contribute for making this campaign a great success. He said that target of healthy nation could be achieved by making this campaign successful.

Yadav said that under Swacch Bharat Mission, the work for construction of Toilets has been completed by 70% and soon Punjab will be the second state after Sikkim having ODF Status which means that each and every household in the state will have its own toilet. He said that toilets being constructed in the Punjab will serve as a model for the other state. Sh. Yadav said that Punjab is the first state of India where scheme for installation of Solar Power Plant at water works has been initiated. In this context, during the first phase Solar Power Plant worth Rs. 8 crore 98 lacs 32 thousand will be installed at 60 villages which will facilitate the villagers as they do not need to pay any electricity bill for operating the water supply. During this Sh. Yadav also launched the Video Clip & Flip Chart regarding Water Supply & Sanitation prepared by National Award Holder Sh. Kamaljeet Singh Grewal. During this he also honored the Gram Panchayats, & Water Supply & Sanitation Committees for their better performance. Sh. Yadav specially honored Deputy Commissioner Fatehgarh Sahib Sh. Kamaldeep Singh Sangh & other officials for their special contribution towards making the state ODF.

During this while addressing the gathering, Sh. Surjit Singh Rakhra Minister Water Supply & Sanitation said that by January 2017 each and every household in rural Punjab will have its own private water connection. 50% target in this regard has been achieved. He said that Rs. 2200 crore are being spent for providing drinking water & sanitation facilities in the villages. During this member Lok Sabha Prof. Prem Singh Chandmajra said that under Swacch Bharat Mission state of Punjab will be developed as a model state. He also appreciated the initiative of installing Solar Power Plant at water works. During this Local Legislator & Chief Parliament Secretary Sh. N.K.Sharma said that Solar Power Plants at water works will also be installed at other villages soon and Rs. 430 crore have been spent for various development works and 65 new water works have been established. During this Additional Chief Secretary DWSS Sh. Suresh Kumar, Secretary DWSS Sh. Joy Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Sh. D.  S. Mangat, Chief Engineer DWSS Sh. P.S. Bhatti, Economic Advisor, Economic Affairs GOI Sh. A.K.Gotam, Director Sanitation GOI Sh. Nipun Sarkar, Team Leader World Bank Project Sh. Nivas Podipireddy, Tubewell engineer and social worker Sr. Gurdarshan Singh Saini and other officials of various departments were present.
