In connection with world Kidney day a seminar was held at auditorium of SKIMS here today. The seminar was organized by the Department of Nephrology of the Institute in which various speakers deliberated upon the causes of kidney diseases, prevention and treatment.The Kidney day is celebrated every year on March 10. The theme of current year is “”ACT early to prevent it””Speaking on the occasion, the experts said Kidney diseases are common in Kashmir, with diabetes and hypertension being common causes of renal failure in adults while as congenital anomalies of the urinary tract, hereditary and glomerular diseases being the commonest reason in children.The program was attended by the SKIMS staff and school children from various educational institutions besides Medical students from SKIMS Medical College Bemina.

Dr. Muzafar M.Wani Associate Prof. Department of Nephrology SKIMS in his introductory address gave a brief about the significance of World Kidney Day and the basic functions of kidney.Director SKIMS Prof. S.A. Zargar and Dean of Medical Faculty SKIMS Prof. Gul Javeed stressed upon children present on the occasion, to take care of their kidneys right from childhood. They laid stress on 8 golden rules to keep kidney healthy. These include eat healthy food, regular exercise, monitor blood pressure regularly, keep weight in check, adequate fluid intake restrain from smoking and no to self medication.On the occasion, students also threw light upon the topic.Dr. Khurshid Ahmad Banday and Dr. Wani were the organizing secretaries of the event.
