Indian Muslim Relief and Charities (IMRC), a US based non-profit organization, organised health check-up camp for poor and needy in Hasan Nagar locality in Hyderabad city on Friday, February 26th.IMRC is organizing annual India Health Initiative for poor and needy this year for the seventh consecutive year. More than 600 patients benefitted from free consultation and free medicines.10 US based NRI doctors with different specialties examined patients after investigating vital signs and blood sugar who were also provided with free medicines.Every year, IMRC assemble team of doctors from the United States to volunteer for the health camps organized by its India wing Sahayata Trust to provide medical care to economically poor patients, who otherwise would not be able to afford the high cost of treatment.
Farhat Sultana, 55, a widow came for a regular check up in IMRC’s free health camp, where after necessary investigations, she was diagnosed with diabetes.She said, “I came here for having back and joint pains but doctors here screened me and conducted the necessary tests and told that I was having diabetes. I didn’t know that I was having this disease, because due to monetary constraints I couldn’t visit a doctor.”The India Health Initiative was started by IMRC in 2010.Since its inception, IMRC has successfully conducted six India Health Initiatives comprising of medical camps across different rural areas, poor localities and slums in India. Last year, approximately 10,000 patients were seen in medical camps in Hyderabad, Bijapur, and Bangarpet.Syed Abdul Najeeb from Sahayata Trust, who is overseeing the organization of Health camps, said that the basic aim to run health camps is to serve poorest of poor. “These camps are meant to serve the poorest of poor in slum areas of Hyderabad.
As it is the capital of Diabetes, the poor people can’t afford high cost treatment besides the slum populace suffers with various ailments which they usually ignore due to monetary constraints. We here are providing free medicines, free consultation by specialised doctors from United States after investigating vital signs and blood sugar levels,” he said.
“Most of the patients whom we examined today were anaemic, having iron and vitamin deficiency and also we got patients with chronic lung diseases, hypertension and diabetes because being poor they can’t afford high cost treatment so, it goes on deteriorating with time. They find free health camps as an opportunity to get examined,” said Dr. Irfan Moin, Geriatrics, who has been volunteering for IMRC’s IHI health camps since last six years.Three more free health camps will be organised in Hyderabad in IndoUS School (Kishan Bagh), IndoUS School (Shaheen Nagar) , and IndoUS School (Baba Nagar) from February 27-29th.In Kerala, medical camps will be organised in Mukkam, Omassary, Koliwada and the Engapuza villages of Kozhikode District from March 3rd to March 6th.
