Joint Committee of Private Schools (JCPS) today held a condolence meeting on the untimely demise of Prof Nusrat Choudhary former HOD Urdu department, University of Jammu.The committee termed the demise of Prof Nusrat as a great loss to the Urdu language and literature. “We have not only lost a good writer, academician and Urdu expert but a great human being too,” said G N Var, president JCPS.The meeting, which was attended by the representatives of over 100 schools expressed their heartfelt sympathies with eminent businessman and Chairman KEC and JCPS Showkat Choudhary. Prof Nusrat was the sister of Showkat Choudhary.The participants prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.
Prof. Nusrat joined Department of Urdu, University of Jammu in 1985 as a lecturer. She went on to become reader, Professor and held the position of HOD Urdu from 2006 to 2009. Prof Nusrat is credited with doing a tremendous work for the promotion of Urdu language in Jammu region.Prof. Nusrat did his M.Phil and Ph. D from Kashmir University under the supervision of renowned Urdu writer Prof. Hamidi Kashmiri. She did her Ph.d on reputed Poet of Sub-continent Faiz Ahmed Faiz. Her book on Faiz is considered one of the best books written on Faiz. Prof. Nusrat was a prolific writer and Poetess too. She has written several books in Urdu and has also compiled her poetic collected “Hatheli Ka Chand”. (KNS)
