South Kashmir’s Anantnag district and its adjoining areas observed a complete shutdown on Wednesday to mourn the death of a local militant Mushtaq Ahmed, who was killed in an encounter with forces at Kalhar Kokarnag on Tuesday.Shops and other business establishments remained closed. Transport was off the roads. People from Khanabal, Bijbehara, Seepen, Batapora, Kokarnag, and other areas reached to the slain militant’s native Pushwara village in large numbers to express solidarity with the bereaved family. Eyewitnesses told CNS that stray incidents of stone-pelting were reported from different parts of the district. Police responded with tear-smoke shells to disperse the angry youth. Reports said scores of youth amid anti-India slogans tried to take out a procession, however, government forces sealed the road and restricted the movement of the people. (CNS)
