The livestock championships initiated by Punajb government to encourage farmers for taking up agriculture allied services has started yielding good results. The 8th National Livestock Championship and Expo 2016 being held under animal husbandry department saw a large number of goat rearers thronging the event. From the border districts of Fazilka, Ferozepur, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur and Sri Amritsar Sahib the goats of breed jamna pari, yattal, pahari, barbari, Bikaneri and beetal are being reared. People living in these districts have now started giving preference to goat rearing.

The goat rearing is not associated with any particular sect of society, rather many farmers are taking up this as business. People thronging the event said that they have decided to tread the path lesser known to gain better economic profits. The people who brought their goats for various compeititons of the animal said that the goat were now being reared in state not only as hobby but as commercial activity wherein the goats yielded 2 to 4 kg milk daily. The milk of beetal goat was very healthy in many ways, which resembled the properties of mother's milk. The milk of beetal goat has also started reaching dairies and is sold at Rs 25 to Rs 30 per kg.

District Faridkot's village Bargari's Kewal Singh Brar said that the beetal goat gives birth to four calves in a year, wherein one is sold at Rs 3000. He said that when adopted as a commercial activity, the goat rearing can work wonders and can make major contribution in ushering in white revolution. He advised younger generation that instead of going abroad and doing menial jobs, the youngsters should take up such agriculture allied business. He added that goat rearing did not require much input as the diet of goats depended on natural sources easily available. Also the animal does not face any major diseases.Similarly, village Khara's Seera Singh and Lakha SIngh said that many varieties yield 3.5 kg of milk in one milking session. They said that presently pahari goats were being reared on hobby basis. Being very beautiful, the goats and their calves become center of attraction in the households they live.
