The Punjab Government and Punjabi Sahit Academay (PSA) would work in tandem for the promotion of Mother Tongue ‘Punjabi’ and for the implementation of Language Act in all the schools of the state. It was disclosed by Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema during a meeting with the representatives of the Punjab Sahit Academy here today. Dr. Cheema also announced grant of Rs. 5 lakh to the academy from his discretionary fund.The Minister said that the Education Department is damn serious for strict implementation of the Language Act and the department has recently conducted surprise raids over all the private schools to check the implementation of Language act in true spirit.

Dr. Cheema informed that it has come to the notice of the department that there are 40 such schools who did not implement the provisions of Language Act as yet. He said that personally call the management of these schools and would ask them to abide by the Language act. He asked the Sahit Academy representatives to bring forth the names of such schools who do not implement the Language act. During the meeting the renowned Poet Dr. Surjit Patar and President of Academy Dr. Sukhdev Singh Sirsa praised the efforts of Dr. Cheema for initiative taken to promote Punjabi Languages in the state.

The Minister also informed that the state government during National level meeting on National Education Policy held at New Delhi, has advocated the need for making Punjab Language a tool of employment generation. He said that it was also proposed that the medium of all the National level competitive examination must also be in vernacular languages. ``To promote the vocational education and to facilitate the students opting for vocational education the state government has already got the syllabus translated into Punjab languages’’ De. Cheema said.

Prominent among others who were present in the meeting included Principal Secretary Mr. C.Roul, Director General School Education Mr. Pardeep Kumar Aggarwal, D.P.I. (SS) Mr. Balbir Singh Dhol, D.P.I. (EE) Mr. Harbans Singh Sandhu, Director, S.C.E.R.T. Mr. Sukhdev Singh Kahlon, Renowned Poet Dr. Surjit Singh Patar, President of Punjabi Sahit Academy Mr. Sukhdev Singh Sirsa, General Secretary Mr. Anoop Singh, Senior Vice President Dr. Surjit and Dr. Guljar Singh Pandher.
