Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Abdul Haq Khan inaugurated training programme on Swachh Bharat Mission organized by Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Management, Public Administration and Rural Development here today.The programme has been sponsored by the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR), Hyderabad for the field functionaries of Rural Development department.Director Rural Sanitation Jammu & Kashmir, Showkat Ahmad Beigh, Director Rural Development Jammu, M L Raina, Head, Academic and Training, IMPA Prof. Reva Sharma  and the Course Coordinator IMPA Dr. Ruchi Gupta were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that key objectives of Swachh Bharat Mission include improving the quality of life in rural areas through promoting cleanliness and eliminating open defecation, motivating communities and panchayati raj institutions to adopt sustainable sanitation practices, encouraging appropriate technologies for sustainable sanitation and developing community managed solid and liquid waste management systems.He impressed upon the participants to implement flagship programme like IAY, MGNREGA, IWMP,   in letter and spirit and ensure that the benefits of these programme reach all beneficiaries.  He also stressed to make the rural areas polythene and pollution free.

Highlighting the importance  of  ‘My Village, My World‘ and “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” programmes the Minister said that all stakeholders have to   play their  role in keeping the environment clean and green adding that proper sensitization about the issue and collective social responsibility  is vital for success of  “Swachh Bharat mission”. The Minister further stressed that Solid waste management is one of the important components under SBM and the construction & demolition waste can be beneficially used by proper processing and recycling to suffice for raw material which is increasingly becoming scarce resources in many areas.The Minister also congratulated IMPA for organizing a training programme with a motive to educate the trainees for proper implementation of various state and centrally sponsored schemes.Pertinent to mention that the programme is a part of training series comprising of ten training courses, five each at Jammu and Kashmir Division to cover all the districts in phased manner.
