Army and forest department jointly held an afforestration drive at University of Kashmir, North Campus, Delina Baramulla.A forest official said the Army and Forest Department along with the University students planted more than 1,000 high quality poly-raised conifer saplings in the North Campus.More than 10,000 saplings are planned to be jointly planted by the Army with the Forest Department in the coming days in District Baramulla to increase forest cover in the area in an effort to preserve the environment and create local carbon sinks for addressing climate change issues in the long run.The high quality planting material was supplied from high tech Central conifer nursery of JV Forest Division, Baramulla.The Chief dignitaries present during the inaugural drive were Brigadier Alok Naresh, Commander 10 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, Brigadier Shabih Haider Naqvi, Commander designate, 10 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, Irfan Ali Shah(IFS), DFO, Baramulla along with Irshad Ah Wani, Director, University of Kashmir, North Campus.More than 200 students from the university were also present to witness and to participate in the gala plantation As per Director, North Campus, this effort would have a long lasting impact on the people as well as the environment. DFO Baramulla Irfan Ali Shah (IFS) in his speech said" it's my dream to make Baramulla as Green Baramulla". (KNS)
