Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani on Thursday directed the Jan Shikshan Sansthans -- set up to impart vocational training to non-literates -- to formulate by October 1 district-specific plans with a blueprint to match literacy requirements of the uneducated in the age group of 40-60 years. While interacting with directors of Jan Shikshan Sansthans (JSS) here, the minister exhorted the directors to draw a skill map of the district in which they were located and then draw a specific plan called "My District-My Plan".She said the plan to meet literacy requirements of non-literates falling in the age group of 40 to 60 years should also be incorporated in the "My District-My Plan".

"JSS should formulate their district plan by October 1 with clear timelines for completion of various components of the plan and then it should be uploaded along with the photograph of their directors on the national portal," she said. The portal would be launched this year, she said, adding that the directors of the best performing JSSs would be awarded.Irani stressed that as skill requirements vary from district to district there can't be a uniform solution for all the districts.Jan Shikshan Sansthans were set up to provide vocational training to non-literate, neo-literate, as well as school drop-outs by identifying skills.
