Two-day National Inter-Disciplinary Conference on “Recent Research Trends in Chemical & Environmental Sciences” commenced in S. P. College auditorium today. The conference is a joint venture of P.G. Departments of Chemistry, Environmental Sciences and Department of Environment and Water Management of the college in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, J&K.The inaugural session was presided over by the Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Dr. Khursheed Iqbal Indrabi, who is also the patron of the Conference.Prof. Zahoor Ahmad Chatt, Chairman J&K BOSE was the guest of honour on this inaugural ceremony. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Managing Director JKTDC/ Director Tourism, Dr. T. A. Kawoos, Director Colleges and  Syed Humayoun Qaiser, Director Radio Kashmir also graced the occasion with their august presence.The VC University of Kashmir, in his presidential address, emphasized on the dire need of productive and empirical research to be conducted in the country. He called for maintenance and conservation of nature rather than trying to interfere and dictate the otherwise harmoniously balanced nature.

The keynote address was presented by Prof. Debi P. Sarkar, a renowned researcher and academic of the Department of Bio-chemistry, Delhi University. In his keynote address, the distinguished Professor delivered a very enlightening PowerPoint presentation on “Targeted Gene Delivery to Liver Cells Using Engineered Sendai Viral Envelopes – from Basic Science to a Pre-Clinical Experience 1988 Onwards”. His extensive research work is focused on targeted drug delivery, that is, how the side effects of a drug / chemical could be minimized and only the affected organ targeted. The renowned researcher sounds optimistic that his study, once it culminates to a logical point, would be a savior for the mankind.Prof. Z. A. Chatt, Prof. T. A. Kawoos and Mr. S. H. Qaiser also expressed their thoughtful views on the theme of the Science Conference.

Earlier, the Principal of the SP College, Dr. Yaseen Ahmad Shah warmly welcomed the distinguished guests, Principals of various colleges, the paper presenters from within and outside the State, on this inaugural ceremony of two-day National Science Conference. He expressed his great sense of privilege for organizing such academic events in the institution which provides a healthy platform for the vibrant interactions amongst the researchers thereby inculcating a  scientific and analytical temperament amongst the under-graduate students.Prof. Mairaj-ud-Din Sheikh, Head Department of Geography, presented vote of thanks on the occasion.The inaugural ceremony was followed by two technical sessions wherein around 30 participants made their presentations. Each session concluded with vibrant and lively discussion and interactive session.
