Mir reviews availability of Rabi seeds, 4,883 Qtls provided to farmers so far

Minister for Agriculture Gh. Hassan Mir today reviewed the availability of quality seeds for current Rabi season in Kashmir at a meeting of senior functionaries of Agriculture Department. On this occasion Director Agriculture Kashmir Mushtaq Peerzada informed Minister that during the current season so far 2600 qntls of Oats, 987 qtls Oil Seed, 840 qntls Pea, 456 qntls Wheat have been provided to farmers and additionally 1400 qntls of Oats, 400 qntls of Peas will be distributed among the farmers within next one week.The Minister was also informed that 583 demonstration plots and 462 seed villages are being laid for production of quality seeds of various Rabi crops.

It was also given out that about 4 lakh onion seedlings were distributed among farmers during last few days while as additional 3 lakh onion seedlings will be provided to the farmers by 15th November 2013.Mr. Mir underscored the need for raising nurseries of various seedlings at Sub-pisional Agriculture level, so that local demands are met. He asked the officers to fix only demand driven targets under the schemes by which farmers are benefited. He also called for formulating area, potential and crop specific pilot projects to facilitate the growers.
