Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh accompanied by Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Mr. Kavinder Gupta, Minister of State for Education and Information, Ms. Priya Sethi, MLA Sat Sharma, today conducted an extensive tour of Jammu city to assess the damages caused to the infrastructure by incessant rains.The areas visited included Shakti Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Talab Tillo, Kabir Colony, Trikuta Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Channi Himmat and Sunjma etc.Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Mr. Soujanya Sharma, Chief Engineers of UEED, Irrigation and Flood Control and senior officers of ERA and district administration also accompanied.

The Deputy Chief Minister directed the officers to immediately undertake the necessary work for the relocation of the pipe laid by ERA at Shakti Nagar Nallh which has resulted overflow of nullah. He also directed the Chief Engineers UEED and I&FC to devise a well-knit mechanism to avoid such situation in future. He also issued necessary instructions to the officers to carry out the necessary repair of the lanes and drains of the city which have got damaged due to the recent heavy rains for which the requisite funds have already been released for the purpose. He directed for undertaking the repair works on war footing basis so that people do not face any inconvenience.At Channi Himmat, the Deputy Chief Minister directed the officers to take immediate measures to evict the illegal encroachers along the nallah and its adjacent land which has choked the rain water and flooded the area causing loss to the public infrastructure.

Later, speaking at a function at Channi organized by Ekta Sangarash Committee, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the Government has ensured transparency in day-to-day functioning and have taken hard steps to curb the corruption from the government offices. Shunting out some deadwood from the administration was a step in this direction and the action would prove a deterrence in the erring officers to curb the menance of corruption, he added.The Deputy Chief Minister said that certain parties are trying to politicize issues for their own political gains by misleading the people. He said that these divisive forces will not succeed in their nefarious designs and would be given a befitting reply by the people. “The present government would complete its full term and the people who are trying to float obnoxious ideas are living in fool’s paradise”, he maintained.

Refereeing to various initiatives undertaken by the Government for ensuring sustained development of Jammu city, the Deputy Chief Minister said that several prestigious projects have been initiated which would ensure complete revamping the basic amenities for the people and result will be visible on ground very soon. Setting up of IIT and IIM in Jammu would further accelerate the development of the city besides providing the employment opportunities to the youth, he maintained.

The Speaker, Mr. Kavinder Gupta, MLC Charanjit Singh Khalsa and State Secretary BJP Mumta Singh also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the achievements registered by the government in the short tenure of the coalition government.They also appealed the people to extend full cooperation to the administration and play an active role in making government’s programmes and schemes a success.
