Srinagar , 10 Jul 2015

With the Minister for Roads and Buildings Syed Altaf Bukhari having said that 800-Km road length in Jammu and Kashmir is being black taped on war-footing, the Minister Thursday said that the interior roads of Srinagar city will also be macadamiadized soon.“I have directed the authorities to start work on macadamization of interior roads but whether the same will be completed this year, I cannot assure you on that,” Altaf Bukhari told KNS over phone. He said that his ministry has enough funds available for the roads. “There is no shortage of funds for the up gradation of roads. The only thing is that weather should improve so that we can continue the macdamization and patch work of the poor roads,” he said.Hs added that the government is serious about the City roads as they (roads) were in dilapidated condition due to potholes and ditches. “We are working very hard these days.

All including engineers, contractors and labors are working with full dedication day and night because we have a limited spell between July and August available for this job as this is only time when the temperature remains feasible for macadamization,” the minister said and  sought public co-operation in this regard. However, on the other hand, many aren’t satisfied with the road repair timings pleading that it should be done at night hours so that commuters aren’t put to inconvenience. “No doubt government is repairing the City roads and we appreciate this, but they must do it at night because during daytime it causes lots of inconvenience by way of traffic jams,” said Mohmaad Aslam, a commuter. It is to mention here that Minister for Roads and Buildings Syed Altaf Bukhari Wednesday had said 800-km road length in Jammu and Kashmir is being black-topped on war-footing. “Due to extensive damage to road network during the September 2014 floods, the R&B department has adopted fresh specifications for maintenance of roads where tarmacadam depth is two to four inch, depending on condition of a road,” the minister had said.
