Highlighting the need for improving education system in the State, the Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar today said that authorities associated with education sector must make concerted efforts to improve the system.The Minister stated this while on an extensive visit to various Government Schools in District Pulwama. Among the Government institutions visited by the Minister include Government High School Nihama, Kakapora, GHSS Pulwama, Central High School and Government College for Women, Pulwama.While on the visit to Women’s College, the Minister inspected the ongoing construction work on the new building there and was informed that the said building is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 12.17 Cr, while as Rs 9.5 Cr has already been spent.

The Minister urged the executing agency to expedite the work so that the building is completed within 2 months and the students of the college are provided with better educational facilities and environment. On the occasion the Minister also urged the College authorities to adopt certain schools in the area on the lines of model school adoption concept, so that such schools are provided the much need handholding.Underscoring the importance to provide equal and better educational facilities to children with special needs, the Minister at Central High School announced that it will be provided with a van and brail enabled computers for the visually impaired children.

Later, the Minister took a review meeting with regard to RMSA, SSA and flood affected schools in District Pulwama and Shopian at the Administrative Complex.  He said that government is making every effort to rejuvenate the education sector in the State and to provide quality education to the students. The Minister took a detailed review of the functioning of the education department in the two districts.During the meeting, DDC Pulwama, Niraj Kumar through a power point presentation gave a detailed account of the functioning of the education sector in the district. He informed the Minister that 857 Government Schools are operational in the district, while as 318 school buildings have been completed under SSA. It was given out that around 90% of such schools have toilets facilities in them.

Meanwhile, DDC Shopian G. M. Dar also informed the Minister that among 411 Government Schools that were functional in District Shopian, all have been provided with toilet facilities.The Minister urged both the DDC’s to carry out the repair and reconstruction work at all such school buildings that were damaged due to September 2014 floods, so that the students do not have to face any kind of inconvenience.Speaking on the occasion the Minister said that the present dispensation is making concerted efforts to perk up the education system in the State. He stressed the teaching community to redouble their efforts so as to help produce students that are an asset for the State.Director SSA, Chief Minister’s Political Analyst Wahid Parra and other senior officers of the District Administration and education department were also present in the meeting.
