Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC), Sukhnandan Kumar Choudhary today appealed the people of Jammu to cooperate with the government to keep river Tawi and other water bodies clean and pollution free.The Minister was interacting with the people after participating in ‘Tawi Mahima’ programme organized by Tawi Bachao Andholan on the Tawi river bank last evening. Tawi Bachao Andholan is a local organization working for preservation and cleanliness of the River Tawi. River Tawi has a great religious significance in the Jammu region.Convener of the organization, Chander Mohan Sharma alongwith a large number of civil society members also attended the ‘Tawi Mahima’ programme- which was held as mark of obeisance and thanks giving to the river for sustaining lives of the people along the course.
While addressing the gathering, the Minister said that he has been watching every activity of Tawi Bachao with eagerness and feel happy after participating in this activity.The minister made a fervent appeal to the people residing along the river to stop throwing domestic and other wastes into the river.Sukhnandan also requested the Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh who is the Minister for Housing and Urban Development to issue directions to the concerned officials to stop the release of industrial and domestic effluents into the river Tawi.
