Chinar Corps celebrates ‘Vijay Diwas’

The Chinar Corps celebrated 43rd anniversary of the Indian victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak War in true military tradition by remembering the heroes and slain soldiers.A defence communiqué said solemn and impressive ceremonies were organised in Badami Bagh Cantonment, for the serving soldiers, and at Naugam and Tangdhar, for the public and ex-servicemen. “These events were attended by a large number of Army and civil persons. Lt Gen Subrata Saha, GOC Chinar Corps paid obeisance to the martyrs by laying a wreath at the War Memorial in the Badami Bagh Cantonment and participated in a Mega Medical Camp at Naugam in District Kupwara,” it said.16th of December is celebrated as ‘Vijay Diwas’ to commemorate the Indian Army’s victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak War. The Chinar Corps was responsible for the entire Jammu & Kashmir during the war and achieved many successes. The GOC, Chinar Corps while speaking on the occasion recounted the sacrifices made and the tremendous achievements of the Chinar Corps during the conflict.

He said that a victory of such a magnitude would not have been possible without tremendous sacrifice by the soldiers and immense popular support. “After attending the  ‘Vijay Diwas’ at Badami Bagh Cantonment, Lt Gen Subrata Saha,  GOC, Chinar Corps travelled to participate in the Event at Naugam where a unique initiative was being undertaken by the Dagger pision by conducting a one if its kind Mega Medical Camp. The camp was held at Naugam (Block Kalamabad, District Kupwara) for the remote region of Mawar Valley comprising of approx 25 villages. 

While planning for the Camp, locals were requested to express their aspirations and the Camp was then conducted to address the issues raised. In keeping with the tradition of collaboration with civil agencies, the Camp organised by the Army saw the wholehearted support and enthusiastic involvement of the local Health Department and Civil administration. Mr  Itrat Hussain, DC, Kupwara, Dr Salim Rehman, Director Health Services, Kupwara and Dr Munir, CMO Kupwara also participated in the event along with a large number of doctors ,lab technicians and nursing assistants, making the Event a grand success. This was the first occasion where-in specialist doctors rendered invaluable medical care to the patients right at their door-step. This included specialists in gynecology, pediatrics, ENT, eye and dental care,” the statement said.
