While the recent incident of acid attack on girl has sent shock waves across Kashmir, experts and civil society members Wednesday called for installation of CCTV cameras at important places including all the government and private-run offices in Jammu and Kashmir to curb the problem of women harassment.Calling the incident of acid attack highly condemnable, Shakeel Qalander, a member of a Civil Society Group said there should be strong monitoring mechanism in place in all the  important places of the valley and in the government and private offices.“These incidents indicate a gross degradation of society. There is a need to revamp the administrative mechanism to stop such incidents to happen in future. The installation of CCTV cameras will be an advantage to address the problem,” he told KNS.

Noted poet Zarief Ahmad Zarief said that such incidences are intolerable. “The installation of CCTV cameras would definitely curb the criminal activities. They also demand that CCTVs should be installed in all the hospitals,” he told KNS.Commenting on the issue a senior bureaucrat said that that the proposal to install CCTV cameras is a good idea. “It’s an effective surveillance mechanism that will not only stop the criminal activity but also help police in investigations. Government should work on it.” (KNS)
