Congress president Sonia Gandhi Friday alleged that ruling BJP has no interest in providing succor to the flood victims of Kashmir Valley. She said that the words and actions of BJP differ in nature as the leaders of the party did not implement on ground what they promise to people.Congress president was addressing an election rally in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district in favour of party candidate Usman Majid. She said that BJP is playing politics over providing relief to flood victims and did not provide what people require at his juncture. “The ruling party at the Centre promised the sky but did not follow it up with action. It seems they (BJP) are not interested. BJP leaders came and promised the sky but did not give anything. Even what the state (government) asked was not given," she said adding that, “elections are taking place at a time when you have faced a natural disaster. It does not feel good to talk politics (but) the relief and rehabilitation work is going on a very slow pace

The main aim of Congress is development and we left no stone unturned in developing the State of Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.

While appreciating the role played by youth in Kashmir during flood furry, Sonia Gandhi said that the youth of Kashmir did whatever was possible. She said that Congress has an all-weather relation with people of Kashmir as her family roots bring her to Kashmir time and again. She urged upon people to vote for Congress and keep communal forces at bay. “Congress has a secular history and it believes in secularism. I appeal to you all to vote for Congress party and keep communal forces at bay,” she said. The election rally was also addressed by State Congress president, Saif-u-Din Soz and former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and party candidate Usman Majid.
