Srinagar , 10 Oct 2014

Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Friday questioned the role of United Nations Military Observers Group (UNMOG) stationed in Srinagar. The BJP spokesman Khalid Jehangir while expressing concern over the ceasefire violations along the Line of Control in Jammu region said, “UNMOG had established its office in Srinagar to monitor ceasefire violations along the LoC and the international border.”He said LoC along Kashmir region is peaceful and UNMOG at present has no role to play in the Valley. “They should shift their base to Jammu and monitor the situation along LoC there. They sitting here and sending their reports won’t serve any purpose,” Jehangir said.

Jehangir said that UNMOG has lost relevance and its employees are wasting their “precious time” in Jammu and Kashmir. “If they cannot stop Pakistan from resorting to unprovoked firing they should wind up their office in Kashmir and move out from here. He condemned the unprovoked Pakistan firing along LoC in Jammu region and expressed solidarity with the family members of those whose kith and kin were killed in Pakistan firing during the past few days. The BJP spokesman said that Pakistan despite getting a befitting reply on many occasions has not learnt any lessons. “If Pakistan doesn’t mend its ways India would be left with no other option other than to respond with all its might,” he warned.
