Oil ministry ensuring adequate supplies to flood-hit Kashmir

In order to improve the supply of petroleum products to the flood-hit Srinagar pision of Jammu and Kashmir, the petroleum ministry is making efforts to ensure adequate supplies, it said Thursday."Oil Marketing Companies have made available 33,296 LPG cylinders, 1,807 kilolitres (kl) of petrol and 3,783 kl of diesel in Srinagar. In addition, 54,804 LPG cylinders, 1,661 kl petrol and 3,292 kl of Diesel are in transit to Srinagar via the Jammu-Srinagar Highway NH-1A, via the alternative Kishtwar-Sinthan Top route and via the Leh-Srinagar route," the ministry said in a statement here. 

While the private LPG (cooking gas) plant in Srinagar is operational, that of the state-run Hindustan Petroleum is inundated with water, the statement added. "Hence, additional LPG cylinders are being bottled at the bottling plants of Indian Oil Corp (IOC) and Hindustan Petroleum at Jammu," the ministry said.IOC has started despatching petroleum products to flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir following the reopening of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway. Distribution of cooking gas cylinders to customers in Srinagar has also commenced.Over 125 truckloads of cooking cylinders have been sent to Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir pision through alternative routes from Chandigarh, Hoshiarpur and Jammu.
