Chandigarh , 29 Aug 2014

A delegation of Beopar Mandal SAS Nagar today called on Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal seeking additional time of 15 days to pay their pending amounts of property taxes. The delegation led by its president Kulwant Singh Chowdhary, general secretary Sarbjit Singh, former president Suresh Goyal and advisor Phoolraj Singh accompanied by other office bearers demanded review of property tax in SAS Nagar corporation area especially shops and showrooms. They emphasized that the shop and showroom owners were paying income tax on the rental income and then service tax on the rental income and now they have to pay another tax on rental income.

The Beopar Mandal apprised Deputy CM that showrooms in Mohali were facing financial crisis due to its proximity to Chandigarh and demanded one time relief from payment of property tax. Badal informed the delegation that there was no provision of any relief in property tax for the previous year as it was uniform exercise throughout the state under the legislation passed by the assembly. He assured the delegation that from next year the government would simplify the taxes with a genuine reduction in rates.Meanwhile, agreeing with Deputy CM, the delegation demanded extension in last date to pay the taxes which falls on August 31. Mr. Badal directed Secretary Local Bodies Ashok Gupta, who was also present in the meeting, to consider the demand of Beopar Mandal sympathetically and extend the same for another fifteen days.
