Cracking whip on the women protesters-agitated over the scarcity of water in the city centre areas, police lathicharged them- making the several city areas to observe shutdown against the police action.According to the KNS correspondent, women on Thursday blocked the road near Naaz cinema- protesting against the dearth of water they face in the onset of Ramadan. The protesting women stated that there is a huge crises of water in the areas including Saraibala, Maharaja Bazar and erstwhile. After blocking the road and raising slogans against the authorities for failing to tackle the crises, the situation turned ugly when the huge traffic mess was witnessed in the city centre- giving tough time to the vehicular movement in the city.

Police later swung into action, cracking whip against the women protesters. Reports maintained that Police allegedly beat women to pulp in the area against which the shopkeepers downed their shutters and observed shutdown. Roads later wore deserted look in the entire area. The senior area residents later stated that people at large in the areas are suffering due to water shortage and that from the last five years they have been requesting the authorities to tackle the crises but nothing was done at the end that made locals protest against the ‘apathy’. The police later when contacted told KNS that the protesters resorted to stone pelting due to which a police personal was also injured. Later the police tried to disperse the mob peacefully but their response was violent. (KNS)
