Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti today launched a nationwide tree plantation drive and public awareness programme to save our rivers. The Minister planted saplings on the banks of river Yamuna at Delhi in the memory of victims of Kedarnath tragedy. Speaking on the occasion she said massive tree plantation drive will strengthen our river banks and will reduce the chances of flood and soil erosion. Similar functions were held at Gangotri, Haridwar, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Patna, Nabadweep and Ganga Sagar also.
