Punjab Sets Up Flood Control Room To Over View Potential Floods

Janmeja Singh Sekhon, Irrigation Minister, Punjab said that the Punjab government has set up state flood control room to monitor the day to day situation of the heavy rains and potential floods in the state. He said that the district level flood control rooms are already working and the state government is fully prepared to tackle any untoward situation arising out of heavy rain and potential floods in the state.The minister said that the government has already released Rs. 10 lac to each district particularly for flood relief activities. He said that apart from this Rs. 10 lac additional grant would also be released to the districts. He said that the flood works like strengthening of the river embankments and bridges in the flood prone area of the state are underway. He said that the DCs have been asked to put the security gadgets in proper place. In the written instructions issued to the deputy commissioners they have been asked to report the loss to life and property due to heavy rains and potential floods on daily basis. DCs could also give their suggestions for proper implementation of rescue operation. DCs could report to the state flood control room on telephone numbers 0172- 27479901 and fax number 0172-2747798. During emergency they could contact Mr. Sarvjit Singh, IAS, and director cum secretary. Revenue rehabilitation and disaster management department on telephone no 0172-2740533.
