The Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal today okayed the multilevel robotic car parking system in all congested commercial areas of all Corporation Towns to solve the chronic problem parking of vehicles. Accompanied by Chuni Lal Bhagat, Local Bodies Minister, Mr. Badal today reviewed the infrastructure requirements of various Local Bodies especially the Corporation Cities and asked Secretary Local Government Mr. Ashok Gupta to go for global meeting for setting up robotic car parking system in all corporation cities. He said that Parking problem was peculiar to the state with Punjab having the unique distinction of maximum vehicle density on the roads. He said that in the fast growing economy of Punjab the infrastructure has to keep a pace with increasing development and scientific parking system was the need of the hour.
Issuing instructions to all Commissioners to identify suitable locations for setting up multi-level robotic car parking, Mr. Badal asked the Secretary to submit a proposal by next Monday positively. He said that the Commissioners besides working out the robotic car system, should also look into variable parking system as per the vehicle density and usage of different areas. Taking serious note of vehicles parked illegally around the roads and in the commercial areas, Mr. Badal issued instructions to DGP to strictly toe away wrongly parked vehicles. He said that no body can be allowed to hinder the smooth flow of traffic and traffic police has to be vigilant against unauthorized parking.
Asking the Local Bodies to make sufficient parking area as a mandatory part of their building plan, Mr. Badal said that it was imperative for the Local Bodies and Housing Departments to ensure compliance of these instructions. Earlier the international consultancy IILF&S gave a presentation on robotic car parking in which cars are collected by parking attendants and cars are taken to a definite parking slot by a robot controlled conveyer belt and car is retrieved that way.

Aujla, Principal Secretary to Deputy CM, Mr. Manvesh Singh Sidhu and Mr. Ajay Mahaja, both Speicial Principal Secretaries to Deputy CM, Mr. Priyank Bharti, Director Local Bodies and team members of IILF&S.
