The Punjab government has approved a proposal of put forward by PWD Ministry to build 4 new Railway Over Bridges(ROBs) with a view to improve the road connectivity between major cities and towns of the state.Disclosing this here today Mr. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Minister for Public Works Department said that the department conducted a thorough study to assess the feasibility and requirement of ROBs on various stretches of the roads besides conducting a survey of traffic density on each segment of the road. He said that after identifying the critical bottlenecks hindering the smooth flow of traffic, the Government has given approval to the 4 new ROBs. He said that these ROBs would be constructed with the cost of 128.18 crores and construction work would be commenced in the next two months.
Giving the details, Mr. Dhillon said these ROBs would be built in Malwa and Doaba regions of the state. He said that the ROBs would be constructed in Kapurthala near Science City, Malerkotla on Raikot Road, Gobindgarh and Northen Byepass Patiala. Mr. Dhillon said that all these four ROBs were expected to be completed within 18 months of the allotment of work.
The Minister further said that the state Government was paying special emphasis on improvement of road connectivity in the state. He further said that in 2007-2012, the SAD-BJP Government had incurred Rs. 564.95 crore on 33 Railway Over/Under Bridges built by SAD-BJP government.
