The Punjab State Legal Service Authority Mohali today organized a "Mega" Legal Services Camp at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law at Village Sidhuwal, Bhadson Road, Patiala. The camp was inaugurated by Hon'ble Justice Mahesh Grover, Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman Punjab State Legal Services Authority in the presence of Hon'ble Mr. Justice Harsimran Singh Sethi, Judge Punjab & Haryana High Court and Administrative Judge Sessions Division Patiala. Ms. Harpreet Kaur Jeewan, Member Secretary Punjab State Legal Services Authority,  Sh. Rajinder Aggarwal District & Sessions Judge Patiala, Sh. Kumar Amit, Deputy Commissioner, Sh. Paramjit Singh Jaswal, Vice Chancellor Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Sh. Mandeep Singh Sidhu Sr. Supdt. Of Police Patiala, Sh. Amrinder Singh Shergill, Addl. Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, Members of District Judiciary Patiala and Police and District Administration was also present at the spot.Hon'ble Mr. Justice Mahesh Grover, Judge Punjab & Haryana High Court-cum-Executive Chairman, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, while addressing the gathering said that the purpose of this camp was to create awareness amongst the general public about their Legal Rights to have access to Justice free of cost. He further said that the development and progress of a country should be assessed from the satisfaction and happiness level of general of its citizens. He also said that most of the people remained deprived of the various beneficial schemes of the government not only due to the casual approach of the government officials but also due to the lack of awareness amongst them about these schemes and purpose of this camp was to create awareness about these schemes by putting up stalls by various government departments where the concerned officials would inform the people about these schemes.Hon'ble Mr. Justice Mahesh Grover, also visited the stalls put up by various government departments, where social welfare benefits of varied kind were being distributed amongst the public.For the purpose of this camp, the District Legal Services Authority Patiala targeted a cluster of eleven villages around the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law namely Sidhuwal, Lachkani, Chalela, Rourgarh, Seona, Lang, Kathmathi, Jassowal, Bakshiwal, Fatehpur and Rongla.During the pre-camp, beneficiaries of different Government welfare schemes were identified by advocates on the panel of District Legal Services Authority Patiala and its Para Legal Volunteers. On identification of the beneficiaries 293 persons were extended the benefit of social security pension, 160 senior citizen women were distributed Free Bus Pass, nearly 500 Construction Workers were given Labour Welfare Card, 35 persons were extended the benefit of Shagun Scheme, 42 Children of slum dwellers were distributed free uniform with admission to the nearest school.Apart from the above said benefits, 302 School Bags, Spectacles to 84 needy persons and 10 sewing machines were also distributed.The Legal Services Authority during this camp also initiated a road safety awareness drive by facilitating the eligible applicants with Learner Driving License. As part of the drive 241 eligible applicants were provided with Learner Driving License. Further, 582 persons were given awareness about various welfare schemes being run by the government departments. In total 1669 persons were given the benefits by the various government departments at the stalls installed by them. Further 1107 persons were given advise and awareness about various government schemes. During the camp 538 application form were got filled from the needy persons under different government welfare schemes. In total 3314 persons were benefited in this campIn the camp Free Medical, Dental and Eyes Check-up Camp was also organized. The organization of the camp was assisted by the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Sarbat Da Bhalla Charitable Trust, Janhit Samhiti and other social organizations.The gathering was also addressed by Ms. Harpreet Kaur Jeewan, Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, Sh. Rajinder Aggarwal District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority Patiala Sh. Kumar Amit, Deputy Commissioner Patiala and representatives of various government departments.
