Jagraon (Ludhiana) , 30 Jan 2019

In a way to protect ‘Good Samaritans’ and encourage bystanders to help road accident victims, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in association with CT University’s School of Law and Ludhiana (Rural) Police organised a Walkthon in Jagroan for making citizens aware about ‘Rights of Humanitarian’.The key objective of this rally was to spread awareness regarding the Supreme Court recommendation that the people who help victims of accident would not be charged with any civil or criminal liability.Elaborating and addressing the rally, Dr Gurpreet Kaur, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary DLSA, said, “The civilians who help the road accident victims have full right to extend their helping hand. There would be no discrimination or harassment by the police and even doctors cannot say no to the treatment. Moreover, no civil or criminal charges would be posted against the helper. If any of you come across this situation, feel free for the humane cause of help.”She said that if anyone sees any accident victim, they should immediately inform at phone numbers 100/108/1073 so that the victim gets timely medical aid. This Walkthon was also attended by DSP Jagraon Mr Amandeep Singh, Principal School of Law Dr Kamaljit Kaur Sidhu, Prof Abha Sood, Prof Mehak Bansal, besides several others.
