The Punjab Water Resources Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria on Tuesday reviewed the flood control arrangements in the state. On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioners submitted their demand of funds for the flood protection works in their respective districts and also gave information about works of de-silting and cleaning of drains.Presiding over the meeting at Punjab Bhawan here, the Minister said that earlier the review meetings of flood protection arrangements was held in the month of April-May and the government had a very little time for appropriate arrangements. On the instructions of the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, now the meeting has been held in January for review of flood control arrangements so as to make complete arrangements before the Monsoon. He directed the Chief Secretary and other senior officers to make all required arrangements on time.

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioners of Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Ludhiana, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur and Patiala districts apprised the Minister about the demand of funds for certain purposes. The Deputy Commissioners of the other districts also informed about the flood protection measures executed in their respective areas.Mr. Sarkaria further said that he would request the Chief Minister and the Finance Minister to release the required funds in due time.The Chief Secretary Mr. Karan Avtar Singh, Principal Secretary Water Resources Mr. Sarvjit Singh and other senior officials were also present in the meeting.
